Pictures of Pagan Russia is a tribute to Igor Stravinsky. His ballet Rite of Spring (subtitled "Pictures of Pagan Russia") is considered paradigm shifting in western classical music. Stravinsky did not try to be historically accurate, or use Slavic folk music as the foundation for his work, but rather used the shamanic imagery as an inspiration to primitive rhythms and hypnotic flows. Similarly, my electronic project takes inspiration from Stravinsky's masterpiece and the wilderness of its soundscape, without either being a ballet nor a piece of classical music or folk tradition. I also listened a variety of psytrance during the creation of Pictures of Pagan Russia, as I consider Rite of Spring to be both psychedelic and trance-inducing. I hope you enjoy.
